Spirituality 101: How to Practice It?
Spirituality is an extensive concept with room for unlimited perspectives. To put it in simple words, spirituality is connecting with something greater than human beings with the hope of knowing the meaning and purpose of life. This is a shared universal human experience that has touched all of us. It is hard to put into words as it is more than worshipping or praying; it can be described as a transcendent experience that enables us to feel alive.
For some, their sense of spirituality is established when they visit a temple or a church, while others say that they do not believe in any religion and connect to their spiritual self in their everyday lives. Being quite subjective in nature, there’s no specific way for everyone to practice spirituality. But there might be some ways or activities that can at least help you find your higher self. Here’s how you do it:
Meditation
Meditation is when we quiet our mind and start listening to our intuition. You don’t have to be an expert to attain the state of meditation. Meditation requires practice, which is subjective to each individual. Some are inherently good at it and can go into deep meditation within a couple of weeks, whereas others might require a longer time.
Just take out 5 minutes every day and sit down in the meditation pose with your eyes closed. Try not to think about anything and only focus on your breathing. Also, do not strain your mind by trying to remove thoughts; if thoughts occur to you, just let them pass and do not engage. If you find it extremely hard, you can also seek assistance from professionals and try guided meditation.
Live a Healthy Life
Health is a state of equilibrium of mental, social, physical, and spiritual health. And you need to take utmost care of your body and mind so you can practice spirituality and attain a spiritual state. Try to listen to your body and see what it actually needs to remain healthy. And if you can, try to maintain a state where both your body and mind are functioning at peak levels. In addition, practice healthy behavior by trying to become a better person.
Practice Gratitude
There are times when your life seems amazing—everything goes according to plan, and you are having the time of your life. Despite how amazing things currently are in your life, there will also be times when things do not go as planned. And therefore, you need to be grateful for the pleasures that life has given you. You’ll see that your perspective will start to change, and tough times won’t be able to bother you anymore. Instead, you’ll realize that failure and challenges are shared human experiences that are only there to test your will.
Meditation is about surrendering yourself to the life force. This is the place where you start living within the flow. And you lose control and let the higher powers take care of you.
