Why is it so Important to Have a Purpose in Life?
“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” – John F. Kennedy
Finding true happiness and freedom in life is what everyone thrives for. However, only a few are able to achieve what it takes to be truly happy, and it is not about money and a big house or expensive vehicles. Instead, it’s your ability to eliminate the restlessness and stress that follow when you are not emotionally and spiritually attached to what you do. And how do you do that? The answer is you find your purpose in life.
But why is it so important to have a purpose in life? Let’s find out!
Your Life Starts with a Purpose
Your purpose in life is the first step of your existence. Your life starts with a purpose that you have to make meaningful. Even inanimate objects that we create serve their purpose, and many of us (even I didn’t have the idea a while ago) don’t know what it is being a human. Being born into human consciousness is the best thing that can happen to anyone as we have the power and the ability to influence the whole world around us and make a positive change. And don’t confuse your life goal with your purpose; there’s no possibility that they would align at any given point in time. With a clear purpose, you know what you have to do, but most importantly, you know why you have to do it.
You Have to Live a Meaningful Life
Your purpose gives you a meaning that is quite the opposite of having a random existence.
Understand it this way – You are born a fish, and you live in an aquarium, and you’re destined to live in the same aquarium for the rest of your life. But you can change this by finding the right opportunity and jumping into the ocean and finding more fish like you who are living a free life.
Remember, you’ll grow old and die one day, but what matters is how you lived your life. Having a purpose in life will not end all the problems in your life, but it can make you more content, kind, and happy so you can deal with your problems with utmost clarity.
You Got to Have Clarity
Most of us are so caught up in everyday unimportant things that we lose sight of things that really matter in our lives. The result is that we are not able to make a difference in our lives. We are only worried about buying a house, a car, then buying another house and another car; the cycle goes on. You need to be aware of the grand scheme of things and your place in there. It sounds quite simple, but having the clarity to differentiate what’s important and what’s not is not as easy. If you’re not clear about what is important in life, always think long-term and see what’ll matter 10, 20, or maybe 30 years down the line. Only then you can be sure of your actions.
And Finally! Achieve Success
Finding success and being successful is not the end of your journey. Instead, it is a journey in itself that you have to live and enjoy throughout. And just to clarify (I’ve said this time and again), success is something that is a result of doing what you love, not something that you do out of compulsion. And the best way to go about it is to dedicate time and resources to something that you love doing. You’ll develop related skills and gain knowledge without being forced, and you’ll naturally spend time in that. As a result, success becomes inevitable.
There might be hundreds or maybe thousands of interpretations of your ‘purpose’ in life. For some, it might be a divine calling, while for others, it might just be a way to achieve true freedom. But I personally feel that this is just a message from your life telling you to do things to make your time worthwhile on this planet.
